What is a Unique Student Identifier?
The Unique Student Identifier (also known as USI) is a reference number made up of a combination of ten numbers and letters.
Who needs a USI?
You are required to have a USI if you are a:
-
new or continuing student undertaking nationally recognised training
-
higher education student in a Commonwealth supported place or graduating in 2023 and beyond
If you do not have a USI number you will not be able to receive your statement of attainment, qualification or any additional completion documentation.
For VET Students, the USI gives you online access to all your nationally recognised training in the form of a VET transcript. This can be used when:
-
Applying for work
-
Seeking a credit transfer in further training
-
Demonstrating pre-requisites when undertaking further training
How do I get a USI?
Applying for a USI is fast and free. You can apply for a USI in as little as 5 minutes at usi.gov.au. If you have studied a VET course in the last five years, including while in Secondary school, you might already have a USI. This can easily be located by clicking here.
